Product Detail

Heritage 01 is a ceremonial-grade matcha crafted from early-season spring leaves (first-harvest), when the tea plant naturally produces its softest, smoothest growth. Our leaves come from heritage tea cultivars in Zhejiang and Guizhou, where farms have produced tea for generations. These mountain regions sit between 450-600 meters of elevation, where cooler temperatures, mist-covered mornings, and mineral-rich red clay soils naturally encourage slower leaf development – a key factor in building chlorophyll and L-theanine!
Heritage 01 Tasting Profile

* Finish: clean, vegetal, subtly mushroomy
* Color: vibrant emerald, high chlorophyll content
To ensure peak nutrient density, the tea gardens are shade-grown for 20-25 days, reducing sunlight by 70-80%. This controlled shading increases amino acid concentration (especially L-theanine, which contributes to umami) while lowering bitterness. Mida's Heritage 01 contains around 20-40mg/g of caffeine. Only the top one to two tender leaves of each new shoot are plucked during early spring, when the leaves are youngest and highest in natural flavors. Harvesting is handpicked to avoid bruising the leaf surface, which can oxidize and dull both color and flavor.
After picking, the leaves are quickly steamed to prevent oxidation, then dried and carefully refined to remove stems and veins to produce the precursor to high-grade matcha. It’s next stone-milled in small batches, a slow, traditional method that preserves the leaf’s color, nutrients, and delicate flavor components by avoiding heat buildup. The result is a vibrant, velvety matcha with a balanced profile – floral, earthy, faintly marine, and naturally smooth, with a clean vegetal finish!
